The Australian Hide Skin and Leather Exporters Association (AHSLEA) is proud to join the global leather community in celebrating World Leather Day on Wednesday, 29 April 2026. This year’s theme, “Make It Leather”, resonates strongly with what Australian hide, skin and leather producers do every day, delivering a natural, durable and traceable material to markets around the world.
Earlier this year, AHSLEA released results from its second annual Industry Sustainability Framework Benchmarking Survey, confirming continued progress across environmental, social and value chain performance, reinforcing the credentials that give international buyers confidence in Australian product.
AHSLEA Executive Officer, Dennis King, said the results reflect an industry that is putting action behind its commitments.
“When consumers, brands and designers choose leather, they are choosing a material that is made to last, one with a natural origin, a long lifespan and a supply chain increasingly built on transparency and accountability. Our 2025 benchmarking survey shows continued improvement in data maturity across our membership and that reflects a genuine, industry-wide commitment to measuring what matters.”
The 2025 survey shows that chemical management practices are well established across the surveyed membership. Half of members who responded to the 2025 survey successfully accessed a new overseas market in the past year and hide traceability from farm to first customer continues to advance.
This World Leather Day, AHSLEA celebrates the craft, the people and the progress behind Australian leather.
