The 39th India International Leather Fair (IILF) was held in Chennai from 1–3 February, bringing together key players across the global leather supply chain. On the eve of the fair, the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) outlined an ambitious growth trajectory, targeting sector turnover of USD 50 billion by FY2029–30, up from USD 24.6 billion today, with export revenue projected to reach USD 14 billion. Achieving this will depend on a sustained increase in high-quality raw material supply at scale—presenting a strong long-term demand signal for Australian exporters.
AHSLEA was represented by 10 delegates at the Fair, with the stand attracting strong interest from visitors and buyers. Business was concluded during the event which is always a positive indicator of engagement. For most delegates, it was their first visit to India, providing a valuable opportunity to build new relationships across bovine, ovine and goat sectors. Austrade supported our delegation in-country, organising transport for tannery visits and to and from the Exhibition Centre, as well as assisting with the build, fit-out and presentation of the stand.
